Day 141 - Fuy A Una Fiesta!

Tonight I was at a 'Spanish Fiesta' to raise money for a mission trip to Spain! Just like yesterday, I made a camera mistake... I came out with my camera with its telephoto lens, instead of my normal one. It wasn't quite so "face of rage eating a rage cake" because I was actually able to take pictures... I just had to stand really far away! But I got some good ones :)

I like this picture below... really quite pleased with the depth of field!I took this picture of Corinne and I really like it 'cause she looks beautiful in it! She is wonderful. These next two pictures are the result of Ben Haas' Photo Challenges! The challenge was to get a picture of someone running, have them in focus, and the rest blurred. This effect is achieved by panning. Its really difficult and I think it might have worked better without the telephoto lens on, but these are my best two...

I'll need to try it out again some time!

I've cropped all these photos to 16x9, simply because I really like that size! :)

Day 108 - That Buzzing-Noise...

"That buzzing-noise means something. If there's a buzzing noise, somebody's making a buzzing-noise, and the only reason for making a buzzing-noise that I know of is because you're a bee. ....
And the only reason for being a bee that I know of is making honey.....
And the only reason for making honey is so as I can eat it."

- Winnie the Pooh
It's bee season!! I have now decided I like bees better than birds, because bees don't give a crap if you stand a foot or two away from them and point a dangerous looking telephoto lens at them... they just carry on with their own business! Birds, however, like to fly to the nearest tree and hide until you've gone. Yes, I like bees. So I got my telephoto out and stood right by this pink flowery bush, and tried to catch a bee that would stay still. It was difficult trying to get the camera to focus on a bee as they never stayed in one place for more than a second... however once you got your camera to focus on one, you could follow it around and get some great shots! Because I has the telephoto lens also meant that these photos didn't need to be cropped :)
Hope you had a good weekend!

Day 91 - One Day I'll Fly Away...

Firstly, my apologies for the amount of photos in this post... I couldn't pick which one to post so I posted a lot! Today I went for another walk... this time for a long one across the beach. I love walking. I could walk for miles just enjoying everything that surrounds me. As I said yesterday, it clears my head (which is great because my head is buzzing right now). I brought my camera and lenses, and got some pretty good landscapes I think (see below). The picture above is of my reflection in the big ball on Newcastle main street.

Having the telephoto lens with me meant I could get some shots of birds, which I am pretty pleased with! =)
It's been a good start to my Easter holidays anyway...

Day 38 - Thank you Mr. Bird!

Today I went on another 'stalk the birds until you get a decent photograph' adventure. I have decided that wildlife photographers are possibly the 2nd most immensly skilled people on the planet. The 1st most immensly skilled people on the planet are those who not only photograph wildlife... but film it too. That is pure talent. To get this picture I went upstairs (having the telephoto lense meant I could still take pictures from far away) and kept my camera focused on the bird feeder, knowing that soon enough some bird will come along and eat, and soon this little one did! I was immensly grateful to it for eating for so long that I got at least 10 pictures of it. Thank you Mr. Bird.
