Day 314 - Chiaroscuro.
Well, yeah, I did take a picture of a chair!! It's because I was standing on the stairs above it and noticed the 'chiaroscuro' lighting, so I thought hey, I should take a photograph of this, adjusting the aperture to make it just right... oh yeah, check me and my photography language out!! BOOM!! Talking in camera language is fun, it makes me feel intelligent and creative!

Day 276 - SPOON
More cutlery today! Yeah, I'm feeling unoriginal. LOL SPOON.
I remember for our first year art exam we had to draw ourselves in the reflection of a spoon. I remember enjoying it, I wonder where that drawing is, it would be interesting to see it again! Speaking of art, I should probably do some. We got to pick our own themes this year, so I picked karate. Not sure whether I'm regretting that decision or not yet...

I went for a walk today with some good friends of mine, and at one point Patrick and I raced to the top of this hill. At the top there was a fantastic sunset and some deer and it would have made an AMAZING photo. For now however, you're gonna have to put up with a spoon. Good day though. I love my best friends :)

Day 240 - Pretty Darn Tired...
I am pretty darn tired. Last night I left the party around midnight, I was feeling tired so I thought I wouldn't stay late, get to bed and wake up feeling better. That plan failed. I did not sleep last night, I don't know why, but I just didn't. I maybe got an hour, two hours. It ended up people were staying until about 3:30 anyway. I could've stayed on and it wouldn't have made much difference! Bleaugh. Rage cake!
Although I got a glowstick today, so that provided me some amusement, even photography wise! Glowsticks make me miss FUSED... there was one night when we had 3 glowstick raves... one at the Baptist Hall, one in the car on the way home, and one back at the house. Good times. Good times.

Day 151 - Seventeen.
Well... today is my birthday!! :D I am now officially 17! Finally! Haha I'm the last one out of my friends in my year to turn 17! I figured because it was my birthday I would take a wee self portrait. It's a little different... but meh! Took me a few attempts to get it right...
My parents got me a printer for my birthday which saves me a lot of bother! It's great actually! :) I know, I'm a dork, getting excited because I got a printer... but that's just me I guess! So yeah I've had a good day! Really haven't done that much, just kinda lazed about the house... I took it easy on the whole revision front, took a bit of a break! Just did a few English notes.

Day 144 - "Everything Else"
Decided to add a bit of text to my photo today... I'm going through a faze of looking up inspirational quotes! I like them :)I picked this quote because, well I'm a Christian, and I think C.S. Lewis is amazing, but also because of the good weather we've been having recently! I love the sun! I took this pic almost immediately after walking out of my dining room - this flower was hanging over my parents' balcony and the sun was shining through it, which made it look really pretty!
Okay, break over... I should probably get back to doing some art now...

Day 109 - JUMP!

I convinced my brother to jump of my garden shed roof to get some good pictures... the bottom one is blurred, but I really like the angle of it! It was kinda fun! I'm thinking I need to get out and take some good portraits, as I want to be able to take good ones by the time summer comes around... maybe over study leaves, during a break from revision, I'll head out with a few friends and get snap happy :)

Day 98 - Battery Low... Please Recharge...
So you agree that this is an odd photo. Yes, I thought so. This is a picture of my sisters friend on my trampoline. I put my camera to a reasonably slow shutter speed and put it on full zoom. I clicked the camera to take a picture and while the lens was closed quickly zoomed out. This was the resulting effect... it could have been done better so I may try this again some time! It's quite interesting though!
So last night I was at a Disney marathon and did not get a chance to sleep... I don't regret it though - we got through 8 movies (Hercules, Pocahontas, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, Mulan, Dumbo and Aladdin)! It was a fun night!

It was a fun night!Being the eejit I am, instead of getting a nice early bed time I went out to the cinema tonight. Mich, Vikki and I went to see 'Remember Me' and it was amazing. I knew it was going to be amazing right from the start, because I started analyzing it as if I were looking at it for homework... that's a good sign! If you can put up with intense emotion, go see it. It's great. I'm not actually a big Rob Pattinson fan, but I thought he did very well.

Day 64 - Inspiration And A Walk Down My Road...
I have been very inspired by another photographer - Janae Hardy, from Missouri. I have never ever seen such wonderful photography - it's the style I love and I think you should take a look at her website - http://janaehardy.com/ it's wonderful!!
I guess this picture of my friend Simon is kinda inspired by her work... the colours are edited as it was a dull day when we went out for a walk, but I like it =)
Also... apparently the mighty number of my followers are getting angry at how I do not update regularly... I have been recieving angry comments from people at school -
"Update your blog!! You have no excuses!!"
"Why have you not updated your blog? You need to update your blog - it's the only thing that has brought any joy into my life since January!"
"Frigg sake Jo, UPDATE!"
Patience is a virtue, but it would seem that some of my friends don't have it ;) so I shall try to update a lot more regularly you guys! Love yous!

If you are staring at that in confusion, clearly you are not fluent in binary. You are not nerdy enough to be that cool.
Took some photos of friends in the school's dark room today =)

Hope you like them!! It was certainly a good experience getting the pics =)

Day 42 - The Big Cat Walk

Today a few people from my year in school hosted The Big Cat Walk... a fashion show to raise money for their trip to Africa in the summer! There were lots of models and a great deal of dancing! It was funny watching some of my best friends RAVING on stage! =DAnyways, blog buddy Corinne and I had to take pictures of the show for the school magazine, The Dunumian. Getting a good photograph was extremely difficult - the lighting was bad, my camera was swiftly running out of battery and Manual Mode was as mysterious as ever. But we managed it! These are some of the photos from the night.... and an awesome night it was by the way! The word is... if our photos are good enough they could get published in Ulster Tattler or Northern Woman, or both (quite well known Northern Irish magazines!!) so it's very exciting!
Well done to everyone who took part tonight!! It was FANTASTIC!

Day 40 - Today's Date Is 90210... =D
-noun
A box like device for holding a film or plate sensitive to light, having an aperture controlled by a shutter that, when opened, admits light enabling an object to be focused, usually by means of a lens, on the film or plate, thereby producing a photographic image.
So today we were deciding our themes for our next art project. The overall theme is "Progress". And so my theme will be - (drum roll please)
The Evolution Of The Modern Camera
So you may be seeing a lot of pictures of old cameras in the near future as I gather my photographs. Today my art teacher brought out a bunch of old cameras from the store. Coincidently, I had brought my own camera in today, to get photos for the school magazine, so I was able to whip it out and snap away at the old cameras! This camera is my favourite =]

Day 36 - Congratulations!
Today I was being a wedding photographer! Wheeeeyyy!!It was great being able to wander around after my boss, watching how he would set up shots and decide what makes a good picture. I got some good shots but I put these up, 'cause I like them, and I don't want to put too many shots up. Privacy and all that jazz!
I think it was a great way to end my work experience as a photographer's assistant. I have learnt a lot about working in a studio this week, and have started attempting to use manual mode... which I think is a big starting point for taking better pictures! Hope everyone else doing work experience this week had good fun!!
Jo out.
PS. I'm back at home now anyway, so uploads will become a lot more regular... sorry Sophie! ;)

Day 35 - Manual Mode Is Less Scary Than I Thought!
Today I faced my fear of the Manual Mode on my camera! Work Experience is good for me!! The problem is...... I can't remember what setting I had taken this photo on.... something like shutter speed 1/200 and f/... erm, f/ something. =P But anyways it turned out how I wanted it to turn out - all you can see are my gloves, the top of my head and my camera! I am proud of myself - I used my camera on manual mode and it worked!! Okay though I'll be honest, the picture is edited slightly. Only slightly! You could just make out the corner of my bed and my wardrobe in the corner, so I blacked them out. It's not like they were majorly obvious, they were heavily shadowed, white was dark grey. I just blackened it out so that your eye would not be distracted from the main part of the picture. I am thinking like a photographer.
Oh, if you're wondering, the camera I'm holding is my grandfathers, I put my camera on a tripod to get the pic. My Grandad was the one that introduced me to D-SLR photography. Without his enthusiam for cameras, I wouldn't have developed mine. I owe it all to him. Love you Grandad =]

Yes. I used the BEAST that is the Fujifilm S5 Pro today to take pictures of my boss's kids in his studio. Photos will be uploaded soon.

Day 32 - Photography Day Much?
I am rather disgusted at how grumpy I look in this picture, the thing was, I wasn't even pulling a grumpy face, it just turned out that way! So this bedroom is where I will be living for the next week! I'm staying with my grandparents from today to Friday for Work Experience! It's a lot of fun!Well today in Work Ex I went with my boss to watch some experts judge a photography competition. Some photographers are so darn talented its disgusting!! Hopefully I'll get there some day :) I spent the rest of the day cropping and adjusting some of his portrait session pictures for him. Hopefully I'll get the camera out tomorrow!
So I'm enjoying myself so far =D living with my grandparents is awesome. I love them. They're crazy, but I love them. When I say crazy I mean it. Here's a quote from Granma when she was watching JLS dance on the TV -
"Why do they insist on grabbing their crotches all the time? I mean, do we walk around and all of a sudden grab our breasts? Do they think it'll just fall off sometime or something? Haha, that would be funny, they would look down and it would be in their hand, and they'd say 'Oh! What's this?'"
I think I'm going to enjoy this week. =]

Day 29 - Bill and Ben The Flower Pot Men!
The title? It's a you have to be there moment I guess. Pretty hilarious night at the Oasis anyway!Taking a photo of the moon is hard. Not knowing my camera very well, I didn't know what setting to put it on. Therefore what I did was try one on every setting! To be honest, they all turned out quite crap, so I just picked one that wasn't entirely blurry - this one.
Believe me, it looked so much awesomer in real life. It was reflecting off the water really nicely and the clouds were a kinda orangey colour and covering the moon in a pretty way. So I made mum stop the car and I took a billion photos. I was raging that none of them turned out right but I got over it pretty quickly 'cause I had a good night.
Hope you had a good night too! =]

Day 14 - Birds Are Very Camera Shy!
The more I look at this photo the more I like it. I think it's my best Project 365 photo thus far... in my opinion.
I spent ages wandering around my garden waiting for birds to appear. Being the silly shy things they are, they hid from me and my camera in the trees. So after a lot of trying to focus on them and epicly failing, I set my camera to manual focus and stood directly under the trees and took pictures from below. I soon realised that because it was nearing dusk this created a silhouetted effect and I was like cool!! Having the manual focus meant I could quickly choose a subject to focus on, and so could get the shot of the bird I wanted. I really liked the silhoetted effect so I took a lot more photos this way of leaves and some more birds etc. and I've put them up just for the craic. Hope you like them! =]

Day 7 - A Living Zombie... Is That A Paradox?
Okay, so having to get up for school at the crack of dawn usually sucks majorly and I end up being a living zombie for the
rest of the day. Well, getting up early this morning meant I could attempt to take a picture of the sunrise! It was very pretty, just this streak of brilliant orange / red under dark clouds... uber dramatic! =]
Anyways, the problem was my camera was as tired and as grumpy as I was, and so I couldn't capture the true awesomeness of the sunrise like it deserved. So I played around with a few different settings, with various results, and then I couldn't decide which one I would put up, so I've just put them all into one box and uploaded three of the photos. I don't know which one I think is most effective, I guess you can decide that for yourself!! I don't have a sunset mode on my camera you see (or else I think I don't), so I just kinda have to improvise when it comes to this kind of light. I use a Nikon D60 by the way! I probably should have mentioned that earlier on in the blog...
